If (and it's still and IF) I decide to do the historical masquerade at Costume Con, which outfit should I enter?

The Red Venetian?
Which is definitely more flashy, but rather hard to document since the construction is mostly speculation.  It's also made from decidedly non period materials - it is all polyester and cotton.  And it's "old" to me, and thus not as exciting to wear.

The Doublet Outfit?
Which is not nearly as flashy but easier to document.  Except for the petticoat with the shaped waistband (done out of necessity, but not my favorite feature).  It's made of period materials -  silk taffeta, wool, and a linen silk blend.  It's also new and I am excited about it.

I haven't seen the doublet outfit yet, so I can't compare the two. But I personally think you look smashing in your red Venetian, so don't be afraid to wear that oldie-but-goodie.

You may want to consider entering the Venetian in the Interpretation category as opposed to Recreation, since it contains synthetics. You could also place a heavy emphasis on the educated guesses part of the construction. The deduction of the logical steps that could possibly have been used to create the garment makes for an interesting read. Did you discover something new when you were making it that hadn't been touched on by a costumer previously?

That's a really good idea! Thanks!

You look so fetching in the red Venetian. But if you have to document and have natural fabric and all, the doublet would be the one to enter. Just my uninformed opinion.

Thank you! Will take that into consideration.

I'm in love with the Venetian style so my biased vote is for that one. I think it's gorgeous and not old to most of us I think!

Thanks! It will definitely be worn, even if I don't enter it. ;)

Honestly, I think they're both great. Doublets are so polished and elegant, and Venetian dresses are so sexy and elegant. (It's all so elegant!) So, I flipped a coin 11 times, and this is how it broke down:

Venetian (heads): 5
Doublet (tails): 6

Doublet wins by one.
